Stahlbau Heil, Stuttgart | Steel construction
Situation
Stahlbau Heil was looking for new technologies to increase productivity.
Due to the wide range of parts that had to be produced, the requirement was for a versatile yet easy-to-control system.
Solution
The REHM FOCUS.ARC P was presented to the company. The many process variants and the SIRIUS operating and communication system were particularly convincing.
To demonstrate the benefits, a project with specific objectives was defined and implemented together with Stahlbau Heil.
Result
The welders are enthusiastic about the device, there is a high level of acceptance and satisfaction.
The annual savings from the use of REHM technology amount to approx. 17,000 euros at one workplace.

FOCUS.ARC P – The added value in steel construction has once again been confirmed. Initial results at Stahlbau Heil exceed even the most optimistic forecasts.
Heil, a long-standing REHM customer, is a traditional steel construction company based in Stuttgart. Over 140 employees work in the areas of construction, production and maintenance, and welding is carried out at around 20 welding workstations. The company specialises in steel and metal construction, crane systems and load carriers.
After a convincing FOCUS.ARC P demonstration, our customer received 4 FOCUS.ARC P 450 WS as part of a project. Specific objectives were defined for each workstation with the aim of eliminating existing problems or costs. For example, reducing rework, increasing quality or making work easier. The results documented by Stahlbau Heil over time are now available for one workplace and have exceeded even the most optimistic forecasts. The great acceptance and satisfaction of the welders working on the FOCUS.ARC P has also led to this good result.
The greatest successes have been achieved above all by increasing the deposition rate from 7.3 m/min. to 11.2 m/min. and reducing rework by up to 100 %.
As a result, Stahlbau Heil has certified that around €17,000 per year can be saved at this workplace. The relevant data is detailed below:

However, it was not only these figures that convinced us, but also the practical, day-to-day work with the FOCUS.ARC P 450 WS. Here is what welder Eduard Horwarth had to say about working with and handling the MIG/MAG welding machine:
‘The FOCUS.PULS arc is totally stable and easy to handle. I can weld very long seams without setting off.’
As an example, Mr Horwarth has provided a video showing an approx. 10 m long weld seam that was welded without interruption. Simply click to play
The specifications for this seam are
- Secure root capture
- No pores
- No binding defects
FOCUS.PULS is the high-performance pulse welding process for steel construction.
It is directionally stable with adjustable heat input and the heat input is reduced by up to 30 %, while at the same time increasing the deposition rate by up to 60 %.
It delivers tack welds that can be welded over, welding with a reduced seam opening angle is possible and there is a significant improvement in quality.
‘I can prevent the blowing effect on very long seams by changing the SDI (-0.1) and VD (-0.3)’
„Mit dem FOCUS.ROOT Prozess kann ich problematische Nähte, bei welchen trotz Luftspalt die Wurzel sicher erfasst sein muss problemlos schweißen.“

The digitally controlled FOCUS.ROOT welding process for thin sheet metal and root welds has the following advantages:
- Very good gap bridging
- Significantly increases the welding speed for drop welds
- Root welding, even with reduced seam opening angle and very good gap bridging
- Reliable penetration
- No weld spatter
‘I no longer have any rework.’
By using the REHM FOCUS welding processes contained in the FOCUS.ARC P 450 WS, a demonstrable reduction in rework is possible. And in this user example, even a 100 per cent reduction.
‘The device runs without malfunctions or failures.’
The FOCUS.ARC P contains technology you can rely on - robust, durable and ultra-modern. Simply a REHM product ‘Made in Germany’.
With an ultra-fast, low-induction bi-power inverter, with its own processor control and PFC (Power Factor Controller). The entire welding process is digitally controlled. This means that during welding, there is constant synchronisation between the welder's specifications and the feedback from the arc. Deviations are recognised by the processor technology and corrected immediately by the ultra-fast UI control.
‘It's easy to operate, I can call up jobs that have already been programmed and the machine shows me what changes when I make changes.’

The SIRIUS digital operating system simplifies the operation of complex digitally controlled processes. It is intuitive and shows everything at a glance thanks to the graphic visualisation. The user can recognise from a distance which setting they are in.
‘The best thing is that I can optimise the arc without changing the wire feed.’
The welder is used to conventional devices. The SIRIUS operating system used in the FOCUS.ARC P displays the optimisation parameters transparently and graphically-dynamically, thus supporting the user in his work.
Conclusion: The use of the FOCUS.ARC P 450 WS MIG/MAG welding machine not only pays off economically for the Heil company, but also creates motivating and performance-enhancing jobs for the welders in the company.
